Cooling from captured heat

Heat in.Cold out.Capital back.

Kelvara™ turns waste heat from on-site power generation into cooling. Every ton we make from heat is electricity your site, and the grid, no longer has to supply. Buy the system through our partners, or pay per ton-hour with nothing up front.

The problem

Demand is outrunning the grid. Cooling is part of the problem.

  1. 01

Sites are making their own power.

Grid interconnection takes years, so data centers and industrial sites are putting generators and turbines behind the meter.

  2. 02

    Those generators waste heat.

An engine or turbine throws off roughly as much heat as it makes power, and most of it goes up the stack.

  3. 03

    Cooling eats the power.

Electric chillers are one of a site's biggest loads. Every megawatt they draw is a megawatt not running computing, or not left on the grid for others.

How it works

Five steps. No new fuel.

An ammonia absorption chiller uses heat, not electricity, to make cooling, cold enough to freeze ice. Two tiers of thermal storage hold it: fast-acting phase-change material for the next few hours, and an ice bank for the long haul. Kelvara supplies the whole loop as one pre-engineered system, with controls and metering built in.

On-site generators and turbines. Exhaust and jacket-water heat that would otherwise be vented, whatever the fuel: natural gas, biomass-derived fuel or hydrogen.

  1. 01

    Heat source

Waste heat is captured at the source with heat-recovery exchangers.

  2. 02

    Absorption chiller

Heat drives an ammonia-water absorption cycle. Because ammonia can go well below freezing, the chiller makes ice, not just chilled water, with almost no electrical input.

  3. 03

    PCM storage

Phase-change material absorbs cold fast and gives it back fast: the short-term battery that covers load spikes and generator cycling minute to minute.

  4. 04

    Ice bank

Surplus cooling is banked as ice, the long-duration battery that carries the site through maintenance windows and multi-hour swings.

  5. 05

    Metered cooling

Cooling is drawn from storage into your loop and billed per ton-hour, like a utility.

The model

One system. Three ways to get it.

01

Buy through a partner

On-site energy developers and EPC contractors install Kelvara™ systems inside the power projects they're already building, and sell or finance them to their customers, like a solar program.

02

Buy direct

For owners who want to own their cooling outright. A standard, pre-engineered package: chiller, PCM storage, ice bank, controls and metering, delivered as one system.

03

Cooling as a service

At selected sites, Kelvara owns the system and you pay per ton-hour with nothing up front. Every kilowatt your electric chillers stop drawing goes back to computing, and you keep the value of that capacity.

Every system, however you buy it, includes Kelvara monitoring and service.

Partners

Built to ship inside other people's power projects.

Kelvara supplies a standard, pre-engineered system plus the contract template, warranty and performance data your financiers need. You keep the customer relationship; we make the cooling bankable.

  • On-site energy developers

Add metered cooling to behind-the-meter power deals and turn vented heat into a second revenue line.

  • EPC contractors

A fixed scope and drawings package that drops into your generation plant design, with commissioning support.

  • Generator and turbine packagers

Offer heat recovery and cooling as a factory option on your gensets and turbine packages.

Who we serve

Anywhere heat and cooling sit on the same site.

  • Data centers

Behind-the-meter gas generation plus a large, steady cooling load. Our primary market.

    Primary market
  • Hydrogen and methane pyrolysis

High-grade heat from hydrogen production and turbines, with cooling needs for purification, compression and carbon handling.

  • Industrial sites with on-site generation

Manufacturing and process plants running engines or turbines with chilled-water or HVAC loads.

  • Grocery and cold storage

Refrigeration-heavy facilities where on-site generation or steam can displace electric chillers.

Technology

Proven today. Better tomorrow.

Deployed today

Absorption chillers

Ammonia-water absorption chillers have run in industrial refrigeration, food processing and cold storage for decades, and reach temperatures well below freezing. Kelvara integrates chillers from established manufacturers into its system; we don't build the chiller, we build the system around it.

Deployed today

PCM thermal storage

Phase-change materials freeze and melt at a set temperature, storing cooling densely and releasing it quickly. They form the short-term tier that responds to load changes in minutes.

Deployed today

Ice bank

Ice stores far more cooling per tank than chilled water and decouples cooling supply from heat supply, so generator cycling and maintenance windows don't interrupt delivery. The long-duration tier.

In development

Thermoacoustic platform

A next-generation heat-driven cooler with no moving parts and no refrigerant. Kelvara is licensing NASA-developed thermoacoustic technology (in progress) with the aim of higher efficiency and lower maintenance than absorption.

For investors and lenders

Capacity from heat. Built to scale through partners.

Kelvara is a product company. Partners who already build on-site power projects sell, install and finance Kelvara systems to their customers, so the business scales on their sales channels and their balance sheets, not ours.

Three lines sit on top of that: recurring service and monitoring on every system shipped, a contracted cooling-as-a-service line at selected sites, and the data from every installed system feeding the next generation of the platform.

  • Standard, pre-engineered product sold through developers, EPCs and packagers
  • Recurring service and monitoring revenue on every installed system
  • Contracted, metered cooling-as-a-service at selected sites
  • Proven equipment with established manufacturer warranties
